AirAsia said in a press release on Monday that it is calling for interested fresh produce and grocery merchants in Singapore to join its delivery platform. New merchants who are successfully onboarded will enjoy a 0% commission rate for the first month.
The announcement indicates AirAsia’s interest in entering the grocery delivery space in Singapore, although the company did not disclose when the new service would be launched.
“After the successful launch of AirAsia food in February, we are now ready to expand our e-commerce offerings to include other categories as well, such as fresh produce, groceries, and sundry delivery,” said Lim Ben-Jie, head of e-commerce for AirAsia.
The firm launched its food delivery service in Singapore in March, marking its first overseas foray. The expansion into Singapore is part of the company’s effort to seek alternative income sources as the aviation sector continues to be badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. AirAsia food started with about 80 restaurants and has since onboarded another 300 F&B businesses.
It now joins the ranks of other companies that are offering grocery delivery services in Singapore. Earlier in May, Grab announced the launch of GrabSupermarket as part of a strategic expansion of GrabMart, its on-demand delivery service.
