NetEase’s sci-fi themed battle royale Cyber Hunter has attained five million downloads outside China across Apple’s App Store and Google Play in just two weeks, according to Sensor Tower.
The game launched globally on April 22, and has generated particular interest in one of NetEase’s most important mobile game markets, Japan. Cyber Hunter has recorded more downloads in its first two weeks than one of the company’s top grossing games, another battle royale titled Knives Out.
About 1.1 million Japanese users have downloaded Cyber Hunter in the title’s first fortnight, surpassing Knives Out’s 980,000 in its first two weeks. Knives Out was the third most downloaded app in Japan last year, after TikTok and Line.
Despite its initial success in attracting players, Cyber Hunter is still a long way from catching up with Knives Out in terms of monetization. Cyber Hunter has so far raked in USD 350,000 globally—including USD 154,000 from Japanese players—while Knives Out has earned USD 623 million worldwide, with more than USD 510 million in Japan alone.
