My best friend spoils movies and TV shows for herself. She does this by watching sped-up summaries of films and shows on video sites like Bilibili.
It’s a popular format—part of the logic, I think, is that there are so many decent productions that it’s impossible to keep up with all of them, so some people choose to keep up with pop culture trends by watching short recaps.
But these videos will no longer live online, particularly on short video platforms like Douyin and Kuaishou. A few things intersect here, including IP protection, the government’s clampdown on fan culture, reining in tech companies, and generally controlling the type of content that burns through hours of each viewer’s day.
