GET, Thailand’s on-demand multi-service platform set up by Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek, officially launched its full operation in Bangkok yesterday. The beta version of GET’s app was rolled out in December 2018, and the firm has been expanding its service coverage throughout the trial period. Since then, GET has provided two million rides in Bangkok. Its services now reach 80% of the Thai capital’s streets.

The company currently offers a ride-hailing service called GET Win, a courier service known as GET Delivery, and a food delivery service named GET Food.

Nadiem Makarim, co-founder and CEO of Go-Jek Group, said that he was appreciative to see GET’s progress in Thailand. “The positive response we received from hundreds of thousands of customers, driver and merchants partners in Bangkok during the two-month beta phase showed that the city needed more options.”

Makarim also said that GET’s launch in Thailand is an important milestone for Go-Jek: “We are grateful for the support provided by stakeholders including the government both in Indonesia and in Thailand.”

Since offering its first ride in Indonesia in 2015, Go-Jek has changed the way locals commute. The app has been downloaded more than 130 million times, recruited over 1.3 million drivers, and maintains partnerships with over 400,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In its home country, Go-Jek offers 19 services, including transport, food delivery, mobile payments, housecleaning, and logistics.

At the outset of GET’s beta phase, the company’s CEO, Pinya Nittayakasetwat, said that Thailand is not an easy market to enter. Localisation is crucial for new players, and it looks like GET is doing a good job in winning locals’ hearts so far.

“We are a Thai brand with local insight, world-class technology, and social impact,” said Pinya.

GET is involving its partners in Thailand’s growing digital economy. For instance, customers who use GET Food can enjoy meals from more than 20,000 merchants that serve up anything between street food and Michelin-starred fare. In the near future, GET plans to launch a wallet service for drivers and its users, as well as a digital payments platform named GET Pay. According to Pinya, GET is currently working with approximately 10,000 drivers.

GET is part of Go-Jek’s expansion in Southeast Asia. Aside from its home base in Indonesia, Go-Jek currently operates in Vietnam and Singapore, as well as the Philippines, where the group acquired a payment service, Coins.ph.
