With Huawei’s ambitions to become the largest smartphone vendor in the world suspended for the moment, and as the company gives up its shares in an undersea cable subsidiary, it has set up a business unit to offer smart automobile solutions, Chinese tech news site IThome reported on Saturday.
Huawei says it will not be developing its own cars. Rather, the Shenzhen-based company intends to work with automakers to develop information and communication technologies that will be incorporated into new vehicles.
The fast data transfer speeds and low latency in Huawei’s 5G systems are essential for automakers that are incorporating new technologies in their vehicles, particularly self-driving cars.
