Jakarta-based multiplatform media company IDN Media announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the independent film company Demi Istri Production. The company will also launch its own film production unit, IDN Pictures, as reported by Daily Social.

Demi Istri Production was founded in 2013 by Indonesian director Fajar Nugros and producer Susanti Dewi. It produced and directed films such as novella-based Cinta Brontosaurus(2013), Moammar Emka’s Jakarta Undercover(2017), Yowis Ben(2018 and 2019), and Terbang Menembus Langit(2018).

“Like a production house, we will use insights from IDN Media’s audience to create films that will entertain and inspire millennials and Gen Z. Our films will be available on multiple platforms such as cinema, OTT, and others,” IDN Media CEO Winston Utama told Daily Social.

IDN Pictures planned to release several films in the near future, but didn’t want to provide more details.

This is the second acquisition by IDN Media, which bought e-sports focused media house GGWP in July 2019. It is part of the company’s vision to become a one-stop content platform for millennials and Gen Z in Indonesia, as stated by Winston.

Established in 2014, IDN Media operates IDN Times, the lifestyle-focused sites Popbela and Popmama, recipe-site Yummy, GGWP, Duniaku, IDN Creative, IDN Event, IDN Creator Network, IDN Research Institute, and IDN Pictures. The company is backed by big names such as East Ventures and North Base Media. Last year, it received an undisclosed amount of Series C funding led by EV Growth.
