Indonesian startup for freelancers Sampingan bags USD 1.5 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Singapore’s Golden Gate Ventures, Antler, and several angel investors.
Sampingan connects businesses with freelancers for task-based jobs. The platform was launched in January 2019 by two former Gojek executives, Wisnu Nugraha and Dimas Pramudya Putra, and their partner Margana Mohamad.
In less than a year, the startup already has more than 150,000 freelancer partners or “agents” who handle various jobs in a quick and efficient manner. Some of jobs available on the platform are data collection or merchant acquisition where the agents sign up and onboard merchants or retailers so they can adapt Sampingan’s client digital infrastructure and systems.
The startup has a number of field team leaders who are responsible to monitor agent performance and maximize efficiency. In its statement, Sampingan claimed that its business clients can save up to 70% by outsourcing some of their work to Sampingan’s agents.
On the other hand, the agent has the opportunity to get additional income of up to IDR 9 million (USD 638) per month by working on various part-time jobs available on Sampingan platform, the statement says.
Sampingan’s notable clients include on-demand platform Gojek, budget hotel chain OYO, and POS startup Moka. For example, Sampingan helps Moka to acquire its merchants and the startup claims that Moka saw its user numbers increase by 20% after using Sampingan’s service, according to the statement.
The company will utilize the fresh funding to accelerate its business by expanding its agent network and providing more offerings for its business clients.
