Indonesian logistics startup Shipper has acquired two local delivery companies, Porter and Pakde, the company announced on Wednesday evening. Porter is focusing on first-mile logistics whereas Pakde’s core business is e-commerce warehousing. The acquisitions enable Shipper to provide e-commerce sellers with warehousing and fulfilment solution on top of their core shipping aggregator solution, the company said. It didn’t disclose financial details.
“Porter strengthens Shipper’s network, we can get closer to consumers,” said Shipper co-founder and COO Budi Handoko in an statement. “Meanwhile, Pakde allows us to create a more holistic solution, not only in terms of first-mile shipping but also in warehousing and fulfil.”
The COVID-19 pandemic is further boosting the growth of e-commerce in Indonesia as more people turn to online platforms to make purchases. This creates a rising demand in logistics and Shipper is strengthening its operations as a response to this trend.
Founded in 2017, Shipper serves small and medium-sized businesses by allowing them to choose the best rates across major carriers. The company has partnered with more than 100 courier services such as Gojek, Grab, J&T Express, Lalamove, and POS Indonesia. Shipper’s core products are a shipping aggregator service, as well as warehousing, and fulfilment.
The startup raised USD 20 million in a Series A round led by Naspers, bringing its total funding to USD 30.2 million, according to Crunchbase. Shipper recently formed a strategic partnership with e-wallet platform Dana for the latter’s logistics service called Dana Delivery.
