Pinterest has opened its Singapore office to serve growing interest from users in the region who are active on the image-based social network, the company said in a press release.
This is Pinterest’s second office in Asia after establishing its Tokyo office in 2013. The Singapore office will be responsible for Pinterest’s operations in Southeast Asia and India as part of the company’s expansion strategy.
Led by Ayumi Nakajima, country manager for Pinterest in Southeast Asia and India, one of the main roles of the team in Singaporeis to localize the user experience on the platform to serve a diverse audience comprising multiple cultures.
Pinterest Singapore has already been working with regional partners, such as MasakTV in Indonesia. During this year’s Ramadan, the company highlighted recipes for Indonesians breaking their fast.
“There is a great opportunity for brands, publishers and creators on Pinterest to connect with these engaged users when they’re considering what to do or buy next,” Nakajima said in a press release. “With a team based in Singapore, we’ll be able to offer an even more relevant experience for our Pinners in one of our fastest-growing regions.”
Pinterest claims that the Asia-Pacific is one of the platform’s fastest-growing regions, with millions of people logging on each month, representing an increase by more than 50% over the past year.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Pinterest was launched in 2010 and now has more than 250 million monthly users around the world. Pinterest is one of the global tech unicorns that went public earlier this year. The company reported a net loss of USD 63 million in 2018 against revenue of nearly USD 756 million.
