China’s internet giant Tencent signed on Monday a three-year strategic cooperation framework with the Forbidden City of the Chinese capital Beijing, according to Tencent’s press release.
Under the deal, Tencent will aid the administration of the Forbidden City, an historical complex which was built 600 years ago and is also known as the National Palace Museum, in collecting high-definition photographic information of its 100,000 relics, while also helping the historic site management to operate and upgrade its cloud-based database.
The two sides will roll out standards for cultural preservation and supervision related to cloud services such as storage, operation, and data backup.
In addition, Tencent Pictures, the film arm of Tencent, will publish a drama series based on the Forbidden City, which is expected to take full advantage of the 5G networks potential, allowing VR-enabled immersive experience and multiple-screen interaction.
Tencent Pictures will also collaborate with the Forbidden City in developing short videos and cartoons based on this series.
