ByteDance’s short video app TikTok is on a winning streak. It has been downloaded 33 million times on Apple’s App Store in the first quarter of 2019, making it the most downloaded app on the App Store for the fifth consecutive quarter, according to data consultancy Sensor Tower. In the same period, TikTok secured the third spot on Google Play.

YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook’s Messenger trailed closely behind TikTok. Twitter, which ranked 16th on the download chart, saw 11.7 million downloads in the past quarter, making it the biggest quarter for the social media app since the first three months of 2015.

Four apps recorded more than 150 million downloads each last quarter. Three of them—WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook—are owned by Facebook.

Earlier this year, TikTok agreed to settle a USD 5.7 million fine with the United States Federal Trade Commission for violating children’s privacy laws.
